Session Description

Kenya is badly affected by extreme weather events, particularly flooding and droughts, and the increased unpredictability of weather patterns endangers agriculture, food, security and livelihoods. Oloo Molly Akinyi, radio presenter and investigative journalist from Western Kenya, has worked in the media for over ten years, two of which have been focused on climate and weather information. Her vital work brings trusted and accurate weather information to communities most affected, specifically tailored to the farmers and fisherfolk that need it most. Tackling distrust, misunderstanding and misinformation, Molly talks about how to make weather information accessible with the help of climate scientists and the Kenyan meteorological department, and the extraordinary impact of her work.
