Why attend

As invasive species are one of the main threats to biodiversity, understanding which of them have the highest impacts is fundamental to prioritise actions. Come learn how to do this using EICAT, the Environmental Impact Classification for Alien Taxa, which is an IUCN Standard since 2020.

Session Description

This Toolbox learning session will start by introducing the IUCN EICAT Standard as a fundamental tool to measure the magnitude of environmental impacts of invasive alien species (IAS). It will also show how different stakeholders can use EICAT for different purposes, such as prioritisation of species for prevention or control actions. More importantly, participants will be shown how EICAT works using a hands-on approach, allowing them to experience the production of an EICAT assessment. Finally, the session will allow participants to understand the steps involved from submitting an EICAT assessment all the way to publication in the Global Invasive Species Database (GISD). The session will be delivered by representatives of the IUCN Secretariat and the IUCN SSC Invasive Species Specialist Group.
