Jeju, a multi-international protected area, is facing threats to climate change and biodiversity due to plastic pollution. To address this, various policies are being implemented with the goal of achieving a plastic-free society by 2040. session participates in exploring plastic-free policies and nature-based economic transition strategies to enhance ecosystem sustainability.

Session Description

This session will discuss policies and social practices aimed at fundamentally addressing plastic pollution. Participants will share policy approaches and social practice examples to reduce plastic pollution and explore strategies to integrate them into nature-friendly economic structures.
In particular, the session will share the case of plastic pollution faced by Jeju, a region with multiple international protected areas, along with its policies and practical efforts to address the issue. Additionally, it will provide an opportunity for all participants to exchange various information and opinions on plastic-free initiatives taking place in their respective regions.
Through this, we aim to envision better policies by sharing plastic-free policies and practical examples from regions with multiple international protected areas. Additionally, we will raise awareness that efforts from individual regions or countries alone are not sufficient, while emphasizing the importance of international cooperation.
