Power in Data

11/10/2025
14:00 - 15:30
The Reimagine Conservation Pavilion
Session with interpretation

Why attend

Conservation data build the world we seek to change. We have to understand better the blind spots and structures of the data we use.

Session Description

Whose knowledge — and whose data — hold power in conservation? What biases, assumptions, gaps, and deficits shape today’s most influential databases? Which forms of knowledge are overlooked, obscured, or excluded from decision-making, and who decides what counts as “valid” data? In this session, we examine the power dynamics embedded in conservation data, explore diverse approaches to confronting these challenges, and consider how the principles of Conservation Data Justice can guide us toward more equitable, inclusive, and transformative practices.
