Why attend

This session will convene REN Coalition partners, renewable energy developers, conservation organisations, and policymakers for a strategic dialogue on implementing IUCN’s new guidance for nature-positive renewable energy development. The session will foster experience sharing, identify barriers, and explore collaborative solutions to ensure that the energy transition contributes to biodiversity goals.

Session Description

As the renewable energy sector accelerates to meet global climate targets, it must also rise to the challenge of safeguarding biodiversity. This session will spotlight the latest guidance from the IUCN-led Renewables for Nature (REN) Coalition, including tools for cumulative impact assessment, spatial planning, biodiversity enhancement, and responsible sourcing.
REN Partners will share insights from field implementation, discuss regulatory and operational challenges, and explore opportunities for scaling nature-positive practices. The dialogue will highlight how wind and solar developments can be designed not only to minimise harm but also to actively contribute to nature recovery.
Participants will engage in interactive discussions on integrating biodiversity into renewable energy planning and permitting, applying cumulative impact assessments in data-poor contexts, enhancing biodiversity at project sites beyond mitigation and addressing supply chain risks through responsible sourcing. This session aims to catalyse cross-sector collaboration and inform the next phase of the REN Coalition’s work.
