Why attend
In a world facing rapid change, conservation efforts must rise to meet escalating challenges. We must scale up the implementation of the GBF, with a focus on climate-resilient solutions. By empowering communities and fostering new leadership models, we can shape the transformation of governance and on-the-ground action to sustain biodiversity.
Session Description
Achieving the EU’s 2030 Biodiversity Strategy, which aims to protect and effectively manage 30% of the EU’s land and sea, poses a significant challenge in continental Europe. However, the outermost regions (ORs) and Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs) account for more than 80% of Europe's biodiversity, making conservation efforts in these places essential to global biodiversity goals. The BESTLIFE2030 Programme addresses this challenge by empowering local actors—those who live and work closest to nature—to take the lead in environmental preservation and sustainable development initiatives.
The BESTLIFE2030 Programme demonstrates that conservation and socioeconomic success are inextricably linked through community-based activities. The Programme improves collaboration by developing partnerships between the public, social, and civic sectors.
By delivering tangible results and amplifying local voices, BESTLIFE2030 bridges the gap between policy and on-the-ground action, scaling up biodiversity conservation and inspiring change at regional and international levels.
