Why attend
Madagascar, a global biodiversity hotspot, faces rising threats to its unique species and habitats. This high-level session explores how the country is turning the Kunming-Montreal GBF into action, enabling measurable conservation results from local to global levels.
Session Description
Madagascar is home to some of the most unique biodiversity on Earth, yet this natural wealth is under severe and growing threat. This high-level session will explore how the country is turning global biodiversity commitments into tangible local action for species conservation. At the center of this effort is the GBFF-funded BioTAct project concept, co-designed by Madagascar’s Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development and IUCN. The initiative aims to support Madagascar in operationalising the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF), while empowering civil society organisations and communities to deliver measurable results for species, habitats, and people.
Using Madagascar as a case study, this session will explore the feedback loop between local action, national planning, and global commitments. By connecting insights across scales (global / national / local), the session will highlight practical pathways for advancing species conservation in one of the world’s most critical biodiversity hotspots.
