Session Description

This session will highlight the momentum behind the recognition of Other Effective area-based Conservation Measures (OECMs) in Asia, contributing to Target 3 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. It will begin with global insights from the CBD Secretariat and the WCPA OECM Specialist Group, followed by a regional overview and national case studies from China, Japan, Korea, and the Himalayas. A diverse panel will reflect on enabling conditions and challenges. The session targets government agencies, Indigenous Peoples and local communities, NGOs, researchers, private sectors, and practitioners engaged in conservation policy and implementation.
