Biography
Alifereti Tawake, an Indigenous Fijian leader, is the Executive Director and co-founder of the LMMA Network International Trust. For over two decades, he has pioneered LMMAs, community-based MPAs, and community-led initiatives in sustainable development, ocean conservation, and climate resilience across the Indo-Pacific. He has received multiple international awards for his tireless efforts in scaling and mainstreaming LMMAs and marine stewardship in the Pacific, empowering Indigenous and local communities, building community resilience, and safeguarding their natural and cultural heritage.
