Ana SALCEDA

Biography

For more than two decades, Ana Salceda has worked as a journalist, communication strategist, and Emmy-nominated director/producer of internationally award-winning documentaries. Her work draws on the power of stories to catalyze social change, focusing on the intersection between science, nature, and human well-being.  Salceda's academic background in journalism, international relations, human universals, filmmaking, documentary production, and advertising has provided her with the tools to use communication to make a difference for the environment and society.

Salceda's film projects and her impact campaigns have been instrumental in passing laws that protect the environment and land rights of vulnerable indigenous communities in Mesoamerica; expand marine reserves in the Sea of Cortez; establish protection for the transboundary coral reef 'Cayman Crown'; provide vital medicines to HIV patients in Panama; protect the harpy eagle population in Panamanian forests; and establish fishing bans for reef fish during their reproductive season  in some Caribbean countries. Her latest campaign was recognized with two Anthem Awards for community engagement and best media campaign in 2024.

Widely recognized for their excellence, Salceda's films have been broadcast on television channels around the world and through streaming services such as Netflix, Apple TV, and Amazon Prime. His documentaries have received critical acclaim, awards in the United States and Europe, and nominations for the Emmys, WildScreen, and JacksonWild. 

Salceda is a member of the WECAFC SAWG Steering Committee, the Writer's Guild of America (WGA), and the National Academy of Sciences' Science & Entertainment Exchange Program. When not traveling, Salceda lives between Madrid and San Francisco, California, where his production company, BelugaSmile Productions, is based.
