Anil Kumar is an expert in environmental data and information management with over three decades of experience advancing geospatial technologies, artificial intelligence, and digital strategies for environmental decision-making. As Advisor on Environment Information Management at the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), he led the development of EAD’s Environmental Data & Information Strategy and AI Strategy, spearheaded the creation of the agency’s integrated Environmental Data Platform, and currently leads the implementation of Abu Dhabi’s pioneering Environmental Digital Twin, a system that leverages geospatial analytics, real-time monitoring, and AI to support proactive environmental management across the emirate. He also led the comprehensive Terrestrial and Marine Habitat Mapping initiative, which established a high-resolution, standardized baseline of Abu Dhabi’s ecosystems to inform conservation planning and policy. Earlier in his career, Anil played a key role in implementing GIS solutions for environmental applications at the Centre for GIS in Qatar and at the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), helping to establish foundational spatial data capabilities that support environmental monitoring, compliance, and planning. Holding master’s degrees in Marine Geology and Geographic Information Systems, along with a postgraduate certification in Business Administration, Anil brings a unique blend of scientific insight, technical expertise, and strategic thinking to the intersection of environment, data, and technology in Abu Dhabi.
