Aurora FERNANDEZ

Biography

Aurora Fernández Durán is the Executive Director of the King Penguin Nature Reserve and a board member of ASÍ Conserva Chile. She is an architect from the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso and holds a Master’s degree in Protected Natural Areas from the Fernando González Bernáldez Foundation, in collaboration with the University of Alcalá, the Complutense University of Madrid, and the Autonomous University of Madrid.

With more than 10 years of experience, she has dedicated her work to the conservation of the natural and cultural heritage of Tierra del Fuego and the Magallanes Region, leading efforts to protect the only king penguin colony in Chile.

In 2024, she was recognized in Chile as one of the 100 Young Leaders of the Year for her work in penguin conservation, as well as for her commitment to nature conservation, scientific outreach, and sustainable tourism.
