Charles DOUMENGE

Biography

Trained in botany and tropical forest ecology at the University of Montpellier (France), I have been a researcher at CIRAD since 1999. I began my career in 1983 as manager of the Ipassa-Makokou research station, a field station of IRET-CENAREST (Gabon). I then worked for several years for the IUCN, developing various partnerships and conservation-development projects, mainly in Central Africa. After a few years as a consultant in tropical forest management and conservation, I joined CIRAD, where I conduct research and provide expertise on biodiversity, ecology and tropical forest conservation. I am involved in training African and European students on these topics and in transferring scientific knowledge to support decision-making, particularly through OFAC, the Central African Forest and Biodiversity Observatory. I am also a member of the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas.
