Christopher SHERIDAN

Biography

Chris Sheridan is Programme Manager at Wetlands International, where he leads global initiatives to safeguard and restore mangroves, deltas, and other critical coastal ecosystems. With two decades of experience spanning science, conservation, government, and the private sector, he brings together field expertise and strategic programme development and leadership to deliver lasting benefits for biodiversity, climate resilience, and coastal communities.

He began his career as a marine biologist, supporting then leading coral reef monitoring and conservation efforts in the Caribbean and Pacific, and investigating processes driving ecological impacts on coral reefs. As a member of Belgium’s CITES Scientific Authority, he contributed to decisions shaping the international trade in endangered marine species. He also founded a non-profit that helped young conservationists gain practical field experience while supporting local organisations in reaching their goals.

Chris holds a PhD in Marine Biology and an MSc in Tropical Coastal Management.
