Dr. Gustavo Calderucio Duque Estrada holds a BSc in Oceanography and both MSc and PhD degrees in Ecology. Since June 2025, he has served as Biodiversity Technical Area Lead at WSP Italy. He joined WSP after six years at Eni, where he was Biodiversity Lead from January 2023 to May 2025. Prior to his role at Eni, Dr. Estrada worked as a consultant with Golder in both Brazil and Italy (2015–2019), where he led numerous large-scale and complex onshore and offshore Environmental, Social, Health Impact Assessments (ESHIAs), Biodiversity Assessments, and Action Plans across the Energy, Infrastructure, and Mining sectors. From 2011 to 2016, he served as Adjunct Professor of Biological Oceanography at the Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ) in Brazil. In 2005, he co-founded the NGO Instituto Marés, where he developed and led conservation and local development projects focused on mangrove ecosystems and traditional coastal fishing communities in Brazil until 2015. Dr. Estrada is the author of over 20 peer-reviewed scientific publications and more than 100 conference abstracts. Since 2024, he has been an active member of the IUCN Impact Mitigation and Ecological Compensation Thematic Group, the Nature Positive Working Group, and the Wetland Ecosystems Specialist Group.
