Biography
I have worked for over 30 years at the interface between biodiversity conservation and the indigenous and other community perspectives, mainly in tropical forest areas. Particular focuses of my work include conservation and human rights, community-based conservation and collaborative management, and voluntary environmental and social standards. I am also passionate about developing robust social science approaches within conservation and am author of the the leading textbook in this field. I work both as an academic, in the Interdisciplinary Centre for Conservation Science (ICCS) at the University of Oxford, and in the non-governmental sector with Forest Peoples Programme.
