Ilka HERBINGER

Biography

Dr. Ilka Herbinger directs the environmental and social safeguarding at Legacy Landscapes Fund (LLF) since the start of 2022. She was appointed to serve on the management board of LLF as Deputy Director in April 2023. She has been working in conservation for over 20 years, first building up and directing an international NGO for the protection of wild chimpanzees in West Africa, before joining WWF Germany as program lead for Central and West Africa, where she gained extensive expertise in environmental and social safeguarding.

Following studies in anthropology, biology, and intercultural didactics, Dr. Herbinger obtained her PhD at the Max Planck Institute of Evolutionary Anthropology and the University of Leipzig. She is member of the IUCN Species Survival Commission/Primate Specialist group, has served as board member on several African-based conservation trust funds and steering committees, and is author of various conservation relevant publications.
