Jorge is the Spatial Planning and Strategy Scientist at The Nature Conservancy’s Global Science team. He applies a diverse suite of spatial planning tools and approaches to advance effective and equitable area-based conservation that benefits both people and nature. His work focuses on building capacity, fostering regional collaboration, and promoting best practices to support inclusive, science-based decision-making. Passionate about cultivating a global community of spatial planning practitioners, Jorge helps partners tackle complex challenges and drive progress toward shared biodiversity and human well-being goals. An interdisciplinary scientist with a Ph.D. in Systematic Conservation Planning from James Cook University (Australia), he brings over 20 years of experience across terrestrial and marine environments, integrating GIS, spatial optimization, scenario planning, spatial modeling, and expert elicitation methods.
