Sangho Joo is the first Korean civil servant appointed as a seconded advisor through collaboration between the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea and the IUCN, which aims to enhance cooperation in the Marine Sector.
Since beginning his career as a civil servant in 2010, Sangho has built 15 years of experience across various departments within the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport. His work has spanned policy planning related to marine sectors, as well as coordinating projects with key international and regional organizations, such as the FAO, IMO, and RFMOs. He has also been involved in policy planning for private industries, including maritime, port, and aviation transportation. Additionally, his experience includes a role as a director dispatched to the Busan Metropolitan City, where he gained practical insights into policy implementation at the regional level.
From 2016 to 2018, Sangho studied Urban and Regional Planning, earning his MA from the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom. His academic focus was on how the transformation and creation of spaces affect people's lives and the environment. He is committed to believing that government policies can foster sustainable practices in marine spaces and the marine environment.
Sangho is confident that the cooperative projects between the IUCN and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries will play a crucial role in advancing this vision.
