Sara OMI

Biography

Sara Omi Casamá is an Indigenous leader of the Emberá people of Panama. She is a lawyer and specialist in human rights and protection mechanisms. She chairs the Coordinating Committee of Territorial Women Leaders of Mesoamerica, a platform for political dialogue among women from the territorial bases of the Mesoamerican Alliance of Peoples and Forests, and serves on the board of directors of the Organization of Women United for Biodiversity (OMIUBP). She is part of the Global Shapers community of the World Economic Forum and was awarded Outstanding Young Woman by the International Junior Chamber (2014) for her personal achievements in the category of Contribution to Children, World Peace, and Human Rights. As a leader, she held the position of traditional authority as president of the Emberá Congress of Alto Bayano (2016-2021).
