Session Description
This high-level panel inaugurates the first in-person Indigenous Peoples Summit at an IUCN Congress. Marking a historic moment, opening remarks from IUCN leadership, Indigenous elders and leaders, governments, and intergovernmental bodies set the tone for partnership grounded in rights, knowledge, and stewardship. The session charts actionable pathways to put Indigenous Peoples front and centre in decision-making: from the highest levels of global environmental agreements to practical mechanisms for direct access to finance. It highlights alignment with upcoming climate and biodiversity milestones, frameworks for accountability and implementation, and the leadership of women and youth. Participants will leave with a shared agenda for the Summit: elevate Indigenous governance, secure resourcing, and build transparent, long-term collaborations across regions. The panel closes by inviting attendees to carry this momentum into subsequent sessions and joint commitments.
