Why attend

Discover how sustainable wood construction, when linked to responsible forest management, can deliver climate and biodiversity benefits. This session connects forest managers, wood industry actors, designers, certification systems, and restoration stakeholders to explore biodiversity-positive value chains and scalable solutions that align with the Global Biodiversity Framework.

Session Description

Beyond their climate benefits through long-term carbon storage, wood construction technologies—particularly mass timber and other engineered products—also provide opportunities to enhance biodiversity when underpinned by the sustainable management of natural and planted forests. Organised by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), this session will explore how wood construction, integrated with responsible forest management, can serve as a lever for restoration and biodiversity stewardship. The session brings together forest managers, industry actors, designers, certification systems, and restoration stakeholders. Building on the Sustainable Wood for a Sustainable World (SW4SW) initiative, it will highlight practical solutions already in use, showcase opportunities for scaling up, and demonstrate how nature-positive practices can be implemented effectively and aligned with the Global Biodiversity Framework.
