Session Description

The session will bring together national and subnational governments, civil society, and experts to explore how to integrate biodiversity into urban and territorial planning. It incorporates experiences from projects funded by the GEF through the Integrated Sustainable Cities Programme and others directly implemented by cities and subnational governments. It will feature participation from the Peruvian Ministry of Environment, representatives of local and subnational governments such as Mexico City and the Prefecture of Carchi in Ecuador, as well as a civil society organization from Guatemala. The IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas will open with a reflection on the challenges of urbanization in key biodiversity areas. The session will promote the exchange of nature-based solutions, participatory planning, and local partnerships to advance toward more resilient, inclusive, and nature-positive cities.
