Session Description

Technologies such as remote sensing, autonomous drones, advanced analytics, AI forecasting, and ecosystem-level digital twins are increasingly shaping conservation worldwide. These tools provide access to new insights on species populations, enable faster enforcement, and allow more accurate assessment of policy impacts. This session will explore specific opportunities that novel technologies open for ministries, regulators, and protected area managers. Participants will discuss costs versus benefits, the criticality of technological tools to operations, and the dos and don’ts for successful implementation. We will showcase both proven implementations and upcoming innovations, bringing together global experts and regional conservation leaders. By the end, attendees will gain an overview of immediate and long-term opportunities, and practical guidance on how to approach the critical question facing conservation actors today: where do we start?
