Malidadi LANGA

Biography
Malidadi Langa holds a Masters degree in Economics and is a career development professional and decentralisation specialist whose career spans over 20 years of pro-poor rural development programming. In Malawi he served as Director of Planning and Development in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, while in Zambia he served as Technical Advisor on Decentralisation Policy Implementation providing technical support to the Ministry of Local Government. In South Sudan (2009-2013) Malidadi served as Senior Advisor on Public Sector Capacity Development providing technical support to the Local Government Board on the establishment and consolidation of local authority structures in the newly independent country. In all these roles Malidadi has been actively involved in mainstreaming environmental conservation issues in decentralised development planning and managing specific biodiversity conservation projects. In Malawi he participated in the establishment and consolidation of CBNRM structures around Nyika/Vwaza and Kasungu National Parks as well as planning and negotiations leading to the formation of the Malawi-Zambia Trans-frontier Conservation Area (TFCA). After retiring from public service, Malidadi remains active in issues relating to wildlife and biodiversity conservation and is currently Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Kasungu Wildlife Conservation for Community Development Association (KAWICCODA). Malidadi also a founding member of the Community Leaders’ Network (CLN) for Southern Africa where he also serves as a member of the Executive Committee. Malidadi brings a wealth of hands-on policy and programming experience in natural resource governance essential to raising and strengthening the community voice in Malawi. Currently Malidadi is facilitating negotiations with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife to expand the co-management and beneficiation space for communities in Malawi.
