Stephen Edwards

Steve worked for South Pole for the past two years, where he led the company's Biodiversity Markets Global Practice.  This involved defining and delivering South Pole’s global strategy for Biodiversity Markets, active participation in the development of a global biodiversity credit market, and serving as an expert advisor in emerging biodiversity markets.

Prior to joining South Pole he worked in the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, where he led IUCN’s work related to the mitigation hierarchy and engagement with high-impact sectors such as mining, energy and infrastructure.  He led the IFC Natural Capital – Colombia Country Pilot, as well as the development of the IUCN policy on Biodiversity Offsets and coordinated the IUCN Niger Delta Panel and the Rio Doce Panel in Brazil. Earlier in his career, he was a Peace Corps volunteer in Uruguay and subsequently he was with Conservation International where he worked globally on enterprise development, ecotourism, and corporate engagement.

Steve earned his Master of Science degree from the University of Idaho and combined Economics and Environmental Studies Bachelor degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz.  He has more than 30 years of professional experience, across more than two dozen countries, spanning the Americas, Africa, Asia, Europe and Oceania.
